Slope Formula to Find Rise over Run

The slope formula is sometimes called rise over run. The simple way to think of the formula is: Mrise/run M stands for slope. Your goal is to find the change in the height of the line over the horizontal distance of the line. First, look at a graph of a line and find two points, 1 and 2. You can use any two points on a line. The slope will be the same between any two points on a straight line.Note the X and Y value for each of the points.Designate the X and Y value for points 1 and 2. Use subscripts to identify them in the slope formula. Slope of a Straight Line The formula for the slope of the straight line going through the points (X1, Y1) and (X2, Y2) is given by: M (Y2 – Y1) / (X2 – X1) The answer, M, is the slope of the line. It can be a positive or negative value. The subscripts are only used to identify the two points. They are not values or exponents. If you find this confusing, give the points names, such as Bert and Ernie. Point 1 is now Bert and Point 2 is now ErnieLook at the graph and note their X and Y values: (XBert, YBert) and (XErnie, YErnie)The slope formula is now: M (YErnie – YBert) / (XErnie – XBert) Slope Formula Tips and Tricks The slope formula can give a positive or negative number as a result. In the case of vertical and horizontal lines, it can also give no answer or the number zero. Keep these facts in mind: If the slope is a positive value, the line is rising. The technical term is increasing. If the slope is a negative value, the line is descending. The technical term is decreasing. You can check your math by eyeballing the graph. If you get a negative slope but the line is clearly rising, you made an error. If the line is clearly going down and you got a positive slope, you made an error. You may have mixed up X and Y and points 1 and 2.Vertical lines have no slope. In the equation, you are dividing by zero, which does not produce a number. If a quiz asks the slope of a vertical line, dont say zero. Say it has no slope.Horizontal lines have a zero slope. Zero is a number. In the equation, you are dividing zero by a number and the result is zero. If a quiz asks for the slope of a horizontal line, say zero.Parallel lines have equal slopes. If you find the slope of one line, you dont have to use the formula for the other line. They will be the same. This can save you some time and effort.P erpendicular lines have negative reciprocal slopes. If two lines cross at a right angle, you can find the slope of one and then change the value for the other to negative or positive.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Essay - 2635 Words

Description of Dialectical Behavior Therapy Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive cognitive-behavioral treatment developed by Marsha M. Linehan for the treatment of complex, difficult-to-treat mental disorders. Originally, DBT was developed to treat individuals diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD; Carson-Wong, Rizvi, Steffel, 2013; Scheel, 2000). However, DBT has evolved into a treatment for multi-disordered individuals with BPD. In addition, DBT has been adapted for the treatment of other behavioral disorders involving emotional dysregulation, for example, substance abuse, binge eating, and for settings, such as inpatient and partial hospitalization. Dimeff and Linehan (2001) described five functions†¦show more content†¦These senses of invalidation from the therapist often cause clients to withdraw from therapy, or attack the therapist. Secondly, it was extremely difficult for clinicians to teach and strengthen new skills at the same time as they are targeting and treating the clie nt’s motivation to die and suicidal behaviors that appeared in the previous week. Finally, therapist may be reinforced for iatrogenic treatment, where they reward clients for ineffective treatment strategies and punish them for effective treatment strategies. To address these difficulties, Linehan developed several modifications which formed the basis of DBT. (Dimeff Linehan, Dialectical behavior therapy in a nutshell, 2001) DBT is designed to treat clients at all levels of severity and complexity of disorders. A growing body of empirical studies has examined DBT. DBT has been the subject of the most study and is the most widely used (Carson-Wong, Rizvi, Steffel, 2013). In one study, Axelrod, et al. (2011) adapted DBT to treat pre-adolescent children who were engaging in nonsuicidal self harming behaviors. The goal of this study was to adapt DBT skills to accommodate the developmental level of younger children. The results of the study provided promising evidence for the use of DBT for children with severe suicidal and nonsuicidal behaviors. The Attitudes Toward Death Changed - 950 Words

The attitudes toward death changed in society. In the past, younger children were dying at higher numbers than adults. When a younger children dies it’s hard for society to accept death compared to older people. However, the death attitudes of older people are more acceptable given their long lives. In the past, younger children died from infectious disease while in the present older people died from chronic disease. In the present, the changes in attitude is that disease can be treated and people are able to live longer. Younger children died at home surrounding with family members, and now, older people are dying at hospital under medical care. Now death is less visible to the family members while in the past death was visible to family members since it happened at home. The changes in attitudes toward death have changed in part because family members witness death differently now. Another change in attitudes comes from time of death. For example, in the early 1900s young er children were dying fast and now people have higher opportunities of prolonging life due to disease. For example, elderly who have cancer start to think about death and talk it through with their family members. Family members are given the time to prepare the burial and be ready for the death. The changes in death attitudes can possibly come from the fact that technology and medicine has advanced allowing people to begin griefing prior to the death of their family members. A Culinary Roadtrip Essay Example For Students

A Culinary Roadtrip Essay The wind was blowing through my hair, the sun was shining creating a shadow behind me. With no clouds in the sky and birds flying high it felt like the perfect summer day. My dad had told me twice already to come and sit at the table, but being the stubborn kid that I was, I decided to ignore him. Eventually it was time for me to sit down, which wasnt a punishment to me, for the food that I was about to be served was a whole experience within itself. The road was long, narrow, and curvy. At first, I didnt really know where we were headed. Wed turn left for five kilometers and then right for three kilometers, passing through multiple small towns. When we passed through each town, there was almost always a round-about with signs telling us which way to go, but I could never read them, for they were in a different language. After thirty minutes of driving on these curvy roads, left right left right, we finally arrived at our destination. A little dizzy from the ride, I could not wait for my dad to finally turn off the engine so that I could get out of the car. Enjoying the vitamin D from the sun, my stomach was growling and I felt like mashed potatoes without the gravy, a burger without the patty and french fries without ketchup; it felt wrong. I sat down at the table, next to my dad and my sister, when the waitress came up to me and said, Voici le menu de ce soir . Not only did I not understand what she was saying, but my understanding was jeopardized by the constant bear growling in my stomach. After what seemed like five minutes had passed, but in reality had only been five seconds, my mom responded with, Elle ne parle pas franÃÆ' §ais  . After this, the waitress excused herself and repeated what she had said but this time in English, Heres the menu for tonight  , and I responded with broken French, Merci!  . I opened the menu and realized that once again everything was in French; nonetheless, I looked at the menu. Trying to look as professional as possible, I flipped through every page. Trying to pick out all the words that I could kind of read and understand, I finally asked my dad to help me choose what to eat. Our final decision came down to: foie gras as the appetizer, lamb meat with gravy and vegetables as the main course, and for dessert three different types of creme brulee. When the first dish came, my stomach was growling so hard that I had absolutely no patience to wait. The foie gras is like a pate but with multiple fatty injections. It has a smooth consistency, texture and a buttery feel to it. When it first hits your mouth there are a million different flavors jumbled up, each one hitting you twice as hard as the previous flavor. As it melts on your tongue the flavors sound like fireworks in the sky on the fourth of July, each one making a bigger and brighter explosion in the air. This happens about twelve times until the foie gras is gone and the fireworks have dimmed down. The next dish was the lamb meat with gravy and vegetables, my favorite and always satisfying dish. The gravy is like a cold drink on a hot summers day, the lamb is perfectly cooked with the slightest color of pink in the center and the vegetables are the perfect medium between crunchy and soggy. Then the dessert, the food that I have been waiting for ever since Ive sat down at the table, creme bralee. The three different types of creme bralee or, chocolate fudge, honey and original, and of course the original is my favorite. .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb , .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb .postImageUrl , .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb , .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb:hover , .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb:visited , .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb:active { border:0!important; } .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb:active , .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ue8b99e49e76c9804a0ea8ce665d087cb:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Americas First Serial Killer EssayWhen handed a creme bralee the first thing one must do is see if the crust is crunchy. Going to the southwest of France has been a tradition in my family for as long as I can remember. We would spend most, if not all, of our vacations there, and along with the beauty of France, I got to go to this amazing restaurant on the top of a hill overlooking a valley of the Dordogne river. Every time that my family and I would go, I would look forward to that day for weeks, and my heart would start pounding so hard like the bubbles of boiled water.
